50 people including Club members, their friends and families enjoyed a packed day at Colchester Zoo. The Zoo laid on a private viewing of their penguin show and members were allowed to handle snakes, turtles. spiders and other creepy-crawlies. They were also allowed to hand feed elephants and giraffes! But best of all was the orang-utan who understands the basics of sign language - some of our Deaf members were able to communicate with the ape - to the astonishment of onlookers! The Club wanted to lay on something special for the members as a way of thanking them for their support over their first year and with the help of Colchester Zoo and the Waltham Forest Community Transport Scheme, were able to offer inclusive tickets at only £6.00 per head! Walthamstow Deaf Club will celebrate their first anniversary on August 3rd with a big party open to all Deaf and BSL users across London. They meet every Wednesday evening 7pm to 10pm at Harmony Hall, Truro Road, Walthamstow. |
